Living nearby the Norton Art Gallery
Enclosed are some fun photo’s from the Norton Art Gallery. I spent the day with my grandson at the Museum. I am very lucky to live near this important gallery. This museum is in West Palm Beach, Florida. I go there for inspiration. They have many installations which I always find interesting.
I love to seek out color and style in these wonderful works of art. Today was very inspiring, the museum showcased the Women Modernist in New York. Between about 1919 and 1935, Georgia O’Keefe, Florine Stettheimer, Helen Torr, and Marquerite Zorach worked in a modernist style in New York. This exhibition examines their careers in parallel for the first time. None of these women wished to be seen as women artist; they sought to be recognized as artist. Nevertheless, their gender shape their art and the way it was interpreted. It seems as though they all found it hard to be married and have time for their art. Georgia O’Keefe was the most famous. She did not let being married stand in her way. She would just take off and do her own thing whenever she wanted to spend quality time on her artistic pursuits. I was really impressed with all of them but was especially drawn to the work of Florine Stettheimer who never showed her work to the public and instructed her sister to get rid of all of it after her death. Thanks heavens that her sister did not follow her wishes because Florine was a incredible artist.
