Staying flexable while designing jewelry
Recently, I started back practicing yoga. I have thought about adding a yoga class to my exercise routine, but I have been procrastinating for a long time about what kind of yoga that I might like to practice. I mentioned before in a previous blog that I am a long-distance, long-time walker. I also swim a little in my pool. Walking has always been my thing, but I thought it was a good time to start yoga again.
Finally, I tried Hot Yoga, after being away from the practice for about 8 years. I never lasted long with my commitment to Bikram yoga, mostly because the practice takes 80 minutes plus a 30 minute drive in the car to take part in a class. This is more time than I want to devote to my daily exercise routine, but I thought that I could carve out 1 day a week in my schedule for health benefits.
I tried the new hot yoga class and it was very hard for me, but I made it through the 26 poses and did not die, so I decided to go back for another shot. The one thing that I found out was that I lost so much flexibility over the years. I guess that I did not realize how stiff I was until I tried this 80 minute class.
I am happy to say that I am going to stick with the one day a week, hot yoga routine and maybe add a second yoga class in the future. I decided also to try some other yoga classes at a different studio, they offered Yin yoga and Anti-gravity Yoga. The Yin yoga seemed very interesting to me, the anti-gravity yoga was just not for me.
For now, I would like to try 2 classes of Yoga a week, maybe 1 hot yoga class and 1 yin class. It took me a long while to take this giant leap and start something new again at 72 years old but I am so glad that I did. It is good to get out of the studio and hopefully add more healthy years to my life. I need a diversion from sitting, designing jewelry 24/7. In the long run, I think my effort will pay off. Believe me, I cannot do everything in these yoga classes but I do whatever I can and it make me feel good.
