Uniformity Show at the museum at FIT
FIT is a place that I am especially fond of, they always have such interesting shows on fashion. I take away such inspiration and education when visiting this museum and to top it off, it is free. The Museum is closed on Mondays but opened up until 8 P.M on several evenings.
The show we encountered was on uniforms that included those used by solders, school children, flight attendant and fast-food clerks. Uniforms are constant reminders of the social order, so commonplace that they are often overlooked. Throughout history, fashion has drawn inspiration from uniforms of all kinds. For example, fashion designers often take functional features and transform them into decorative elements. Military uniforms are referenced in high fashion more often than any other type of uniform.
This was a wonderful show and I hope if your visiting New York that you take time to see this informative installation.
