Hand painted leather necklaces
I love to work with leather, all kind of leather from lambskin to suede. The variations of leather are breathtaking. While visiting Paris, I purchase some antique suede which I have use and paint for my art jewelry.
Acrylic paints are wonderful for painting leather. I usually paint freeform, abstract designs. There are also very nice metallic paints that add a little sparkle to my work.
I will incorporate my painted leather designs with handknotted silk, fresh water pearls, semi precious stones, vintage resin and always fine metal findings. I alway use sterling silver chains and findings and would never add base metal components to my work.
The way I see it, my work is labor intensive and I want to show it in the best possible way. I would not feel good putting my designs out for sale with base metal.
